Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026
Team-in ("we", "us", "the app") is a social app for finding, creating, and joining pickup sports and fitness games. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Minimum age
Team-in requires every account holder to be at least 16 years old. You're asked for your date of birth when you create an account, and it's checked against this minimum on our servers, not just in the app — an account that fails this check is not created and any data collected up to that point is deleted immediately. This is a stricter requirement than general child-privacy law (which typically starts at 13); we hold to 16 because the app connects you with strangers in person for real-world meetups.
Browsing without an account
You can browse open games near you — the Discover feed, search, and event details — without creating an account or providing any personal information. This works through a temporary, anonymous session (via Firebase Authentication's anonymous sign-in) that has no name, email, or other identity attached. Joining a game, creating a game, messaging, and following/friending other users all still require a real account. If you browse anonymously and never create an account, that anonymous session is automatically deleted after 30 days of inactivity.
Information we collect
- Account identity — used to create and sign in to your account: a Google account, an Apple ID (Sign in with Apple, iOS only), or an email address and password (all via Firebase Authentication). If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive Apple's private relay address instead of your real one.
- Profile information — your name, city, email, optional phone number, bio, sport interests, and age group. Name, city, and email are required when you create your account; other users can see this information on your profile.
- Profile and chat photos — if you upload a profile picture, or share a photo in an event chat or a direct message, that image is stored on our servers (Firebase Storage) and visible to whoever that chat is visible to (see below).
- Location — the location you set for events you create or view, pickup meeting locations if you use the pickup/rideshare feature, and, if you choose to share it, your device's current location in an event group chat (visible only to that event's participants). Sharing your location in chat is a one-time action you initiate each time — we do not track your device's location in the background. When you type a city into your profile or search for a location while creating an event, what you type is sent to Google's Places/Geocoding APIs to look up matching places and coordinates.
- Event and chat activity — events you create or join, participants, join requests, pickup/ride requests, and messages you send in event group chats or in direct messages with friends. Event chat messages are visible to that event's current participants; direct messages are visible only to you and the friend you're messaging.
- Social connections — who you follow, your friends (mutual connections, required for direct messaging), and pending friend requests.
- Reports and blocks — if you report a user, event, or message, or block another user, we store that action to enforce our community standards.
- Device and diagnostic data — standard technical data (device type, OS version, crash logs via Firebase Crashlytics, push notification token) used to operate, secure, and improve the app.
How we use your information
- To operate core features: creating/joining events, group and direct chat, pickup coordination, following/friends, and profile display.
- To show a live weather forecast on outdoor events — we send only the event's coordinates (no account or identity data) to a third-party weather API to fetch this.
- To let you search and send GIFs in chat — search terms you type in the GIF picker are sent to GIPHY to fetch results.
- To send push notifications about your events, chat messages, join requests, invites, and friend requests.
- To review reports and enforce blocks between users.
- To maintain the security and integrity of the app (e.g. preventing abuse via Firebase App Check attestation, and rate-limiting suspicious activity).
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only:
- With other users, to the extent needed for the app to function (e.g. your profile is visible to other participants of an event; chat messages are visible to that chat's participants).
- With our infrastructure provider, Google Firebase, which hosts and processes data on our behalf to run the app (authentication, database, storage, push notifications, crash reporting).
- With Google (Sign-In, and Maps/Places/Geocoding for location lookup) and Apple (Sign in with Apple), when you use those features.
- With Open-Meteo (weather forecasts) and GIPHY (GIF search), limited to the coordinates or search terms needed to serve that specific request — no account or identity data is included.
Your choices
- You can edit or remove most profile fields (city, phone, bio, interests, age group) at any time from the app.
- You can unfollow, unfriend, or block another user; blocking hides their messages from you and prevents them from contacting you through the app.
- You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app. This is permanent and immediate.
- Each email address can only be linked to one account at a time. If you try to use one that's already registered elsewhere, you'll need to delete that account first — either by signing into it yourself, or, if it isn't yours, by contacting us.
Data retention
We retain account and activity data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to resolve reports and disputes, after which it is deleted or anonymized. Anonymous browsing sessions that never become a real account are deleted automatically after 30 days.
Children's privacy
Team-in requires all account holders to be 16 or older (see "Minimum age" above) and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16, and any account that fails our age check is deleted immediately without being created.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
